Prism Earth and Toha Network recently co-hosted the New Zealand premiere of Becoming Nature Positive in Auckland, bringing together leaders from business, finance, technology, and research organisations to explore how Aotearoa can contribute to the global movement to halt and reverse nature loss.

Following the screening, a panel featuring Simon Ngawhika (EY) and Declan Fisher (Silver Fern Farms), both members of the Nature Positive Forum, reflected on how the film’s global themes connect to New Zealand’s unique environmental, cultural and economic context. The discussion highlighted the importance of combining international nature-positive ambitions with local knowledge, indigenous perspectives and practical action on the ground.

In the solutions-focused spirit of the evening, Toha Network and Prism Earth showcased new nature data templates developed for the East Coast Exchange NZ platform. These templates have been pre-configured to align with emerging state-of-nature indicators being developed by the Nature Positive Initiative, enabling high-integrity reporting and disclosure on biodiversity, ecosystem extent and ecosystem condition.

The event also celebrated the many organisations and individuals whose contributions made the work possible. Te Kautuku Ahu Whenua Trust and Rangiata Ahu Whenua Trust provided access to land, data and local knowledge through their roles as pilot and reference sites, while funding support came from Te Runanganui o Ngāti Porou, Gisborne District Council, Te Puni Kōkiri, Air New Zealand and Silver Fern Farms.

The evening was a powerful reminder that building a nature-positive future requires collaboration across communities, organisations and sectors. As expectations for biodiversity reporting and nature-related disclosure continue to grow, initiatives like the East Coast Exchange NZ are helping create the trusted data foundations needed to turn nature ambition into meaningful action.
