Prism Earth Wins Technology Project Award at 2026 PINZ Summit
28 June 2026Prism Earth has won the Technology Innovation Award at the 2026 Primary Industries New Zealand (PINZ) Awards for developing a pioneering compliance system that helps New Zealand’s red meat sector meet the European Union’s upcoming Deforestation-free Supply Chains Regulation (EUDR).
Developed in partnership with the Meat Industry Association and Lynker Analytics, the solution combines satellite imagery, aerial photography, LiDAR, artificial intelligence, and NAIT cattle movement data to verify that beef exports have not originated from deforested land.
The award recognises the project’s importance in protecting access to EU markets, worth an estimated $200 million annually to New Zealand’s beef industry. Judges praised the system for positioning New Zealand among the few countries prepared to meet the EU’s stringent new requirements.
“This is a massive data fusion effort,” says Prism Earth Managing Director Matt Lythe. “We’re analysing forest loss across more than 10 million hectares of grazing land and combining that with animal traceability data to deliver robust evidence of compliance.”
The platform automatically generates the due diligence documentation required for exports to the EU, helping processors identify compliant livestock and providing importers with confidence in the sustainability and traceability of New Zealand beef.
Beyond regulatory compliance, the technology has the potential to support broader sustainability and carbon reporting initiatives, helping future-proof New Zealand’s reputation as a producer of high-quality, environmentally responsible food.
